The fruits used are as fresh as possible, and of the highest quality available. Many have been purchased directly from local growers, and the product line has earned the Aliment préparé au Québec certification. The sugar and citrus used are always organic, and the majority of the spreads are certified organic by Québec Vrai. This growing company has been producing spreads and pastry fillings in Montreal since September 2022.

Challenge to make the best spread

Nicolas Desaulniers-Soucy has a doctorate in physics and worked in high-tech manufacturing for most of his life but always had a keen taste for unique flavours. In his spare time, he could often be found in the kitchen experimenting with various sour dough bread recipes. It was during a visit to the U.S.A that he came across a sour cherry jam that tasted so delicious, he felt compelled to attempt a re-creation of it using local Quebec sour cherries. During this process, as part of perfecting his recipe, he even sought out a specific pectin from California which gives the spread its melt in the mouth texture.

 

Punch Tartinades was born out of a desire to celebrate the tartness of fruit WITHOUT the sticky sweet sugar found in most other jams. The sugar content is reduced by up to 40% compared with traditional jam, as indicated on the product label, which is why it is uniquely referred to as a “spread.” What began as a passionate challenge has now turned into an exciting business going into its 2nd year!
